Funny Thing That Happened

I'll be the first to admit that when you're planning a camping trip, not everything goes according. Especially if you're traveling into unfamiliar territory.

That's exactly what happened to my husband and I when we decided to take his family to Sedona, AZ. We had went on our own the year before and we loved it so much that a wanted to share our experience with our family. We made sure we packed everything we would need for that weekend but what we didn't plan on  was the drastic change in weather. Our first visit to Sedona was on Memorial weekend with temperatures over 100°and the air was dry as a bone. The following year was average heat and high winds.
Well, needless to say we were going to be having dusty weenies for dinner that night. And to top it all off the high winds had snapped most of or tent poles in half while a were out hiking. We came back to a camp site that looked like it was attacked by a pack of wild coyotes.
So what was the lesson learned in all of this?
#1. Check the weather for the days your planning your trip.
#2. If you can, get a tent with aluminum tent poles. They're more durable than your average Walmart tent and if you plan on doing a lot of camping, you want to have something that's going to last.
All said and done, this will be a story that we can retell and continues to make us laugh everytime we tell it.
Happy trails : )
